Occupational Safety Specialist
$74,300.00 – $105,000.04 annually

The Workplace Health and Safety Division works with ministry customers and clients to create effective Occupational Safety and Health Programs that facilitate the reduction of workplace injuries, reduce claims costs and achieve compliance with the Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and other relevant legislation.

Occupational Safety Specialists review internal and external trends, injury data and client needs to target prevention activities. Our specialists collaborate with other staff to support injured employees to stay at work or to create a timely durable return to work. Occupational Safety Specialists actively promote Workplace Safety and Health Division initiatives to reduce personnel loss and to help create a better place to work for all staff.

Qualifications for this role include:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Sciences, or in a related field, plus completion of the Occupational Health and Safety Certificate from the British Columbia Institute of Technology; OR
• Post-secondary education (minimum 900 hours of course work) in a relevant field such as occupational safety or occupational hygiene that will qualify as an OHS Academic Programs Approved for CRSP Eligibility (see list at https://www.bcrsp.ca/ohs-collegeuniversity-programs-CRSP ); OR
• A combination of 5 years applicable work experience (within field of occupational and/or environmental health and safety) and OHS related education in addition to holding a CRSP®; OR
• A combination of  5 years of work experience and OHS related education with the commitment that the CRST will be obtained once all requirements are met under Pathway A, B or C of the eligibility guidelines for the CRST application as per the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals.
• Experience in training, including developing and delivering presentations to large groups and facilitation of small classes.
